Holiday gift guide

For your friend who loves to cook:

If you haven’t heard of the spice company Diaspora yet, I highly recommend checking them out. Female founded by a UC Berkeley alum (go bears!) and based in Oakland, they source their products directly from farmers and are a major upgrade from the spices you find in your local grocery store. I use their Pragati turmeric in my lentil soup, and LOVE their cacao powder (it’s a little pricey, so especially makes for a great gift!). Check it out for delicious gifts your foodie friend will actually use.

For your workout buddy:

Bala bangles are both cute and add a little extra oomph to your core workout or yoga class. I like to use them on my ankles for abs (straight leg scissor kicks with these are killer), and on my arms for a little extra challenge in yoga (it especially burns in poses where you hold your arms our for an extended period of time).

For anyone that loves a good snack:

These reusable bags are a game changer. They are microwave safe (cue quick microwave popcorn), dishwasher safe (easy cleanup), and thicker than conventional plastic bags, giving your snack a little extra protection (no one likes squished blueberries at snack time). I like to bring them hiking and biking filled with fruit or nuts, and to work with snacks. They also work well for storing frozen fruit in the freezer, leftovers, herbs, and whatever else you’d use a plastic bag for. They come in a bunch of different colors, and make for a great gift for any snacker in your life.

For your friend with a sweet tooth:

Dandelion chocolate (based in San Francisco) has a bunch of sweet, unique, chocolatey, treats that make for delicious gifts. For gifts, I like their black sesame toffee brittle and gift wrapped chocolate bar set. They also offer free shipping over $25, making it a convenient gift to send to loved ones you won’t be able to see in person this year.

A last minute gift that doesn’t require shipping:

Give the gift of fueling better with a gift card for Cate Ward Nutrition. Ideal for anyone looking to improve their daily eating habits or chat about the science behind the latest nutrition research.
